Project Gawain - Dev Log 1


I have started a new Third Person Blueprint project in unreal, and I'm working on developing a wall running mechanic as my first task. For the moment, it's just going to detect which side the wall is on and use a line trace to keep the run going. Eventually though, I want to convert it to a capsule trace that automatically detects which direction the player is going as well as their angle to the wall, and control it that way. The wall run mechanic is going to be a key element in the level designs, and while I could easily set limits on it and still have it work with those levels, I prefer to create something that the player has freedom with, to use it in creative ways to do something that it wasn't necessarily intended for.

For this mechanic, I will be taking inspiration from Titanfall 2 and Darksiders 2.
